Moerlein Lager House

Christian Moerlein was finally coming back to Cincinnati. But could they raise their mug in proper fashion at the Moerlein Lager House?

The Challenge

Name the two Mug Clubs at the Moerlein Lager House. The first tier, a ‘prestigious Beer Society for the absolute beer enthusiast,’ includes Monthly Beer Baron dinners, collector Beer Stein, locker, and specialized privileges for a $400 annual membership fee. The second tier includes personal invitations from the brewer to all monthly seasonal beer tappings and advance notification of new beers and all events and discounts prior to public announcements for a $30 annual fee.

The Solution

Named for Christian Moerlein’s Old Jug Lager Krug-Bier, his most popular beer during the 19th century, the Old Jug Society hearkens back to a time when people enjoyed their beer.

A hogshead is a cask holding 54 imperial gallons, the Hogshead Union name plays on Cincinnati’s history as the pork producing capital, as well as the tobacco hogsheads used in in Kentucky.

What I Did

Researched and named both. And both are chugging along into their second year of existence.
